Press thing
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Brooklyn College Master of Fine Arts Open Studios
4.24.09 6-10pm
4.25.09 12-6pm
I am a night painter, so when I come into the studio the next morning the delirium is over. I come into the studio very fearfully, I creep in to see what happened the night before. And the feeling is one of, "My God, did I do that?".
-Philip Guston
America's oldest M.F.A. program is holding its Spring Open Studios.
Twelve first year and eleven second year Masters candidates open their workspaces to the public, showing finished works and ideas in progress, fleeting successes and unmitigated disasters. What better time to support the arts than now, at the brink of our Nation's demise?
Artists: Dominik Wyka | Jacob Zurilla | Emily Bicht | Mark Bump | Juan Ortega | Lars Rassmusen | Susanne Cranston | Antonio Serna | Paul Gagner | David King | JungHwa O'Connell | Luiza Kurzyna | Nathaniel Lieb | Marina Pavlutskaya | Jeff Frederick | Erin Zelley | David Loncle | David Friedman | Matthew Wilson | Elias Melad | Emet Sosna | Sara Reiss | Maria Tasigiannis | Zane Wilson
Take either the 2 or the 5 train
to Flatbush/Brooklyn College.

For more information contact us at brooklynart@gmail.com
or call 718.951.5588 ext. 5181
Edit as you will guys. Make sure I spelled your name right and didn't forget anybody.
Also I don't know that we've decided on these times. We should decide on the time before we tell people to come.

Spring Open Studios 2009
Hey All,
Here is the Brooklyn College Open Studios card. Let me know what you all think.
Regarding Dates and times, I'm sort of for having it 2 weeks after spring break, May 1 and May 2, Instead of the week right after spring break. Also, I noticed a few people concerned about the Saturday hours.. I'm thinking maybe we should have it earlier 12-6 (instead of 2-8)? More brunch-style, bagels and coffee emphasis, plus the early light is nice!
Please comment and let us all know what you think.
Matthew will email/post the press release soon too so be on the look out.
Things remaining: Paul is gonna help us get the budget for the printing. I'll be in contact with him.

It's Alive!! Brooklyn Art MFA's Brain...
... well -sort of. I put up a mind map of potentials for the Brooklyn College Art MFA program. Seem like there are many potentials out there but they always fleeting. One way to catch them or start to is put them down and then work them out, slowly. So this is a start, have a look, explore. If you feel like getting in there and adding/arranging stuff let me know and I will send out an invite to share/edit the map. (but email me first, you have to be invited- as a matter of fact I should just invite everyone as soon as I have some time.)

Wrong Angles
Interesting article plus multimedia in the New York Times last month about a show of the Ceausescu Collection in Romania's Bucharest’s National Museum of Contemporary Art. The paintings were all hung at angles or low to the ground to so the show is not interpreted as a tribute.

Dan Graham and his other peciliarities...
Oh yeah, so if the reading about Dan Graham in Versteeg's History Workshop didn't clarify some of his intentions these links to other tangential work by Dan Graham won't help either. For some weird reason he is sort of famous for this video called "Rock My Religion", it's about rock and Shaker culture, bits of it are dry, or you got to be in the mood, here is a preview version of that video on youtube:
The entire video is available on Ubu Web is here, it's an hour long:
http://www.ubu.com/film/graham_rock.html
...apparently he made a film about the hard core band Minor Threat (ubu link)
If you are curious what's he like now, like how his personality developed, here is a Tate Short video of him discussing some paintings of John Martin:
